While speaking at the Temple Emanu-El in Manhattan, former President Barack Obama proclaims that he is “basically a liberal Jew” in defending his stance against Israel’s West Bank settlement and his administration’s decision to abstain from the U.N. Security Council vote that denounced Israeli settlements.
Obama went on to argue that the West Bank settlement is “not sustainable” and could hinder peace talks/negotiations between Israel and Palestine.
“To be a true friend of Israel it is important to be honest about it, and the politics of this country sometimes do not allow for it,” Obama said, referring to the U.S.
